Hyderabad: 'A conceptual design becomes a reality only when it takes shape on paper through use of architectural drafting services. These drawings play a vital role in communicating our ideas and concepts to people and in convincing them about the merits of our design' said Lalit Mitta, Practicing Architect, Hyderabad. He graced as chief guest for the 'Design Review' at School of Architecture, GITAM Deemed-to-be University, Hyderabad Friday. He went through each and every drawings and designs showcased by the GITAM School of Architecture students and encouraged the budding architects by suggesting necessary modifications. Architecture is quite a visual element, however, architects should try to engage all senses in their designs, he advised.

Detail drawings show a small part of the construction at a larger scale, to show how the component parts fit together. They are intended to explain a scheme and to promote its merits, he explained. Architectural drawings are made according to a set of conventions, which include particular views (floor plan, section etc.), sheet sizes, units of measurement and scales, annotation and cross referencing, Lalit told.

A floor plan is the most fundamental architectural diagram, a view from above showing the arrangement of spaces in building in the same way as a map, but showing the arrangement at a particular level of a building, he elaborated. A site plan shows property boundaries and means of access to the site and nearby structures if they are relevant to the design. It gives an overview of the entire scope of work, it shows the buildings (if any) already existing and those that are proposed, Lalit Mitta added.

Earlier, Prof. Sunil Kumar, Director, GITAM School of Architecture welcomed the guest and introduced to the students. SoA Associate and assistant professors Ar. G Sravanthi, Hema Sree Rallapalli also took part in the design review.
