Clear holy waste post Nimmajjan

During this festive week of Ganesh Chaturthi, a lot of holy waste including flowers, plants and other puja materials is accumulated. This holy waste, which is currently thrown on the Tank Bund Road, left aside on the footpath and dumped into the Hussainsagar lake, is extremely contaminating the area nearby thereby increasing the risk of epidemic illness.

This holy waste, which can be disposed or made use of judiciously, is lacking the required initiative. Ironically, even with excessive setups and police patrolling, this issue goes by without gaining any attention - neither by the public nor by the people in charge.

It is important that authorities show some concern and establish an effective solution for the matter.

Improve infrastructure before penalising motorists

The Telangana State government is planning to collect huge penalties from the people who violate traffic rules by implementing the New Motor Vehicle Act.

The government cannot control the traffic problems and accidents only with the collection of huge amounts of penalties. The aim of the government should be to implement the traffic rules for all than to collect penalties.

The traffic rules should be implemented for all including the public representatives like MLAs, MLCs, Corporators etc, who violate the traffic rules by having their vehicle windshields covered with black films, and by displaying their designation stickers on their vehicles, which are against the traffic rules.

When the government strictly implements the New Vehicle Act by collecting huge penalties, it is the minimum responsibility of the government to see that the road infrastructures are maintained accordingly.

Some Central and State government departments like Telecommunications, Electricity, Municipal Corporations etc are responsible for the creation of narrow roads, by digging the pits and keeping them open for days together.

Collecting huge amounts of penalties from the public may also lead to an understanding between the traffic constable and the person who violates the traffic rules, which indirectly encourages corruption.

Keeping these practical problems in view, in implementing the new act, the government should take necessary steps of the laws not by collecting huge penalties, but by providing proper road infrastructures, which will control the traffic problems and accidents.

Merger of banks a welcome move

The merger of 27 PSBs into 10 PSBs is a blessing in disguise. The move will swell credit capacity and likewise global competitiveness. Now it will bestow wings to Indian PSBs to vie globally and be able to lend more lucre.

The major reason for this move is to help revive the slowing economy so that the vision of the Modi government to touch 5-trillion dollar economy could succeed. It will increase their operational efficiency by reducing their cost of lending.

It will also benefit from increased CASA (Current Account Savings Account). Now the question emanates whether it will affect their activities or not.

All banks will work from the same and similar platform and so there will be no disruption in their activities. The government will also infuse Rs 55,250 crore to extend more loans to their customers.

Though PSBs are reeling under bad loan crisis because of the size of NPA (Non-Performing Assets) of State-owned banks stood at Rs 7.9 lakh crore. But by the passage of time, the bad loans will shrink and become stable.

Narasimhan sir, we miss you!

ESL Narasimhan sir, you gave a lease of life to our school, which stood as a model school for Telangana State. Here I want to share one incident with you sir.

The occasion was the International Yoga Day. Sir, you along with your wife Vimala Narasimhan visited our school. When we all were staring at you, madam said, "Arrey mundu yoga paina concentrate cheyyandi ra taruvatha chudandi" (first concentrate on yoga later look at us).

We all felt happy with madam's affectionate advice for us. The day was Friday, September 6. We don't know that it was the last day to spend with you.

Respected sir, there is a sense of gloom in our school. You delivered a speech with love and affection, where our little hearts filled with sorrow. Sir, we miss you!
