Vox Populi on flare-up of issues in polls

Highlights

With the city all set to elect 150 GHMC corporators on December 1, The Hans India sought to know citizens’ hopes and expectations and disappointments, if any, on the problems they face. Common issues they touched upon included lack of proper roads, inadequate sewerage/drainage, Covid pandemic and recent floods

We have seen lot of changes brought in by this government. Durgam Cheruvu became one of the jewels in the city of pearls. It added beauty to city. The cable bride reduced traffic. It's Asia No 1 cable bridge. Also, several development projects were undertaken. The ultra-modern police command control centre will help the department work more efficiently. The Dharani Portal has brought huge advantage for Telangana people, as registration and passbook will be issued within 35 minutes. Floods were the biggest challenge for the government, but it made sure to distribute Rs 10,000 for the affected people.

Roads are just the same and I am not able to find Singapore in Hyderabad. Sewerage became another problem for the citizen in Hyderabad. The Telangana government sanctioned Rs 65.56 crore for the Musi project, but there is no improvement. I don't know if people were benefited, but TRS party has made good money. Floods became another big challenge for the public, but the ruling party tried to play smart by distributing money meant for relief, without proper screening. Unfortunately, most of the deserved failed to receive it. The government did not even take safety measures for social distancing, throwing people to risk of Covid.

In the last couple of years, I've seen unimaginable construction of buildings, particularly in the IT Corridor; but unfortunately, at the cost of rocks and trees. We can't cut trees and satisfy ourselves by planting nurseries. It's high time that we change the lens through which we see. The City needs to act on climate change. On a positive note, I've seen the Police and Revenue departments, municipalities being friendly and extremely helpful to people.

The government failed to usher in 'Bangaru Telangana, which it promised. But there are a lot of drawbacks in the administration. The government has to focus on providing better roads and sewage system. Many people suffered during the Covid pandemic; even now they are facing problems. With no proper roads, we face too many hardships while traveling. The recent deluge once again showed us how the City is vulnerable, as the Musi was in spate. Even during light rain, drainage overflows.

P Shashank, businessman

"According to me in the span of six years, we have seen 50 per cent of development in city but still the government need to put some effort towards basic facilities that includes proper roads and proper drainage system and it should ban illegal constructions As seen during the recent floods, many low-lying areas were inundated, a so proper comprehensive drainage system should be laid,"

Ramaesh Pittla Muhiraj, advocate

In this span of 6 six years, in some areas development has taken place and in other areas the conditions are worst. On the roads front, many internal and main roads have become worst and roads are full of potholes. In the case of lakes, many are in pathetic condition. Coming to infrastructure , the present government has failed to take any action against illegal structures. In addition to these, debris management should be implemented

Vinay Vangala, a private employee, Miyapur

Since last 6 years, there has been 24X7 uninterrupted power supply, which is very essential for a cosmopolitan city like Hyderabad. Policies like TS-iPass, T-Hub, WE Hub, SHE Teams ensured that private employment opportunities are created for the youth and safety is provided to women. We have also seen starting of Metro trains across the city. Also, LRS and BRS schemes have ensured that real -estate sector booms and reliance to technology has ensured that access to education becomes easier. But, at the same time, unfortunate incidents like Disha rape, Honour Killings, etc., are being witnessed in our city. I hope that the government brings law to stop 'Honour Killings'. Lately, heavy rains caused heavy damage to the city. Hence, proper and modern drainage system shall be built."

Baglekar Akash Kumar, LLB student, University College of Law, OU

"There is a gradual development as the city is expanding but the current ruling party has done nothing in this span of six years. It does not mean that constructing flyovers in some locality or developing some parks that doesn't mean that the city has developed . Especially the northern and eastern parts of the city, same conditions persist
