Scion of Hyderabad's first family of theatre, playwright-director-actor Mohammad Ali Baig has been nominated and is to receive the Sheikh Zayed International Award for creating world class theatre in several countries. The award will be presented to him at the prestigious Asian Arab Awards on Saturday, followed by his performances in Dubai.

The Awards ceremony will bestow honours on various achievers from different fields from 39 different countries and is being held in the year that commemorates the 100th anniversary of Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the UAE. Baig is the only awardee from India.

Mohammad Ali Baig is known for his global work in theatre in countries such as France, UK, USA, Canada, Turkey, including Edinburgh and recently Oxford. His work on stage primarily highlights Indian and Hyderabadi culture, history and traditions with celebrated plays like 'Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada', 'Savaan-e-Hayat', 'Spaces', '1857: Turrebaz Khan', 'Under an Oak Tree' and others.

Maestro Baig is renowned for his theatrical expertise that his Hyderabad-centric plays were termed masterpieces and milestones in US and UK, and countries like Turkey had his retrospective.
