Hi-Tec City: On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Care Hospitals in Hi-Tec City organised a breast cancer survivors meet on Wednesday.

The meeting was organised with an aim of creating awareness and building confidence about the treatment and living a quality life among the cancer survivors. A team of five doctors and breast cancer survivors participated.

Cancer survivor Rajeshwari is leading a normal life after successfully combating Breast Cancer and Shilpa Prasad has started back her studies after treatment last year. "These women along with other survivors are a true inspiration for all cancer patients with a strong message that cancer is curable, and one can lead a normal life," said Dr Krishnamani, Medical Oncologist.

There is a strong need for the patients and family for a proper counselling during the treatment. A lot depends on the proper understanding about the treatment process by patient and family so that there is less apprehension and anxiety.

Dr Arun Lingutla, Consultant Medical Oncologist, said, "Generally the word cancer creates a sense of fear. The purpose of this meet is to remove that fear." "The treatment is easily available and affordable. There are new drugs with lesser side effects and are within the reach of the general public. As there are new and better treatments available, long term survival is also possible, he added.
