Hyderabad: On the occasion of Savithir Bai Phule's Birth Anniversary, members of Dalit Stree Sakthi organised a conference on Equal and Free Education.

The conference was chaired by Jhansi Geddam, National Convenor, Dalit Stree Sakthi, Prof Padmajasha, Retried Professor of Osmania University, Prof Rekha, EFLU.

Jhansi Geddam National Convenor, Dalit Stree Sakthi, said that Savithri Bai Phule was the first teacher in India who grasped the need for education for social transformation more than 100 years ago and have put all efforts in educating the downtrodden women and also completed her task facing all sorts of hurdles and attacks. Even though Savithri Bai stands atop of all social reformers, she is not recognised to the extent she deserves due to patriarchal ideology. It should be recognised that free and equal education is a fundamental right of all citizens and everyone should strive to achieve this goal. "

Prof Padmajasha, a retired Professor of OU pointed out that there are many ills in present-day society and condemned the social outlook of looking at women as objects. He added that progressive organisations should concentrate on struggling for the rights of the downtrodden.
