  • Raises objection to reported deployment of former IG (Intelligence) on poll duties
  • Also asks SEC not to allow deployment of officials nearing retirement

Hyderabad: Smelling a rat in the deployment of retired officials and officials on extension, the Telangana chapter of BJP on Sunday asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to bar all such officials from discharging election duties in the GHMC elections .

In a letter submitted to the SEC, BJP State general secretary Gujjala Premender Reddy said, "officers on extension of service/employment are barred from working on election duties." Accordingly, he asked the SEC to bar all such employees having been deployed for duty in GHMC elections. He maintained that the principle has been followed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for conducting free and fair elections.

Particularly, it is pointed out that the party has come to learn that retired Inspector-General of Intelligence, Prabhakar Rao, who is on an extension of service, has been deployed for GHMC election duties. It is also equally important that employees who are nearing their retirement or likely to retire in the next six months should also be barred from discharging the election duties, the BJP demanded.
