Tolichowki: With the works of sewage water box drain pipeline going at a snail's pace, the residents of Nizam Colony and Al-Hasnath Colony are facing inconvenience and many hardships. Both the pedestrians and the commuters taking this route expressed their anguish over the delay of the works and hope the authorities would speed up the works.

According to residents, the works of box drain began earlier in November but due to GHMC polls the works were stopped, since then the residents of the locality are facing problems. For taking up these works the entire road was dug-up and left open, due to this the residents of this lane had to face undue difficulties. This is the only parallel lane connecting Hakeempet Road to Al-Hasnath Colony, besides the main road (below flyover). "It has been more than 3 weeks since the road was dug-up for these works. Later works were stopped for GHMC elections. Now the election results have also been announced at least now the concerned officers must speed-up the works," said Mohammed Javed, a resident of Nizam Colony.

"If the works were started it has to be completed in a given time, though the elections were announced at least the dug-up road should have been covered, this has created a problem for the entire lane and we are the ones who have to suffer," said Shaik Amjed, another resident.

On a complaint by the locals, on Monday, MLA Kausar Mohiuddin along with newly elected Nanal Nagar division Corporator Mohammed Naseeruddin visited the area and inspected the ongoing works and instructed the concerned officers to speed up the works and complete them at the earliest. "Due to elections the works were stopped, now the works have commenced and will be completed within a week," said Naseeruddin.

It may be mentioned here that following an issue between the people of upstream colonies of Shaikpet and military colony over the diversion of stormwater through Balkapur Nala, construction of box drain became inevitable. "To get rid of water clogging issue in colonies here we planned to extend the existing box drain at Tolichowki crossroads up to Al-Hasnat Colony via Nizam Colony and Meraj Colony. This would help at least to flush out the storm water during rainy seasons," added the Corporator.
