Kapra: Dammaiguda Lake which is the heart of the division is now in a pathetic condition. Earlier, the lake, from which water was used for drinking and cultivation, has now become a cesspool.

With water inlets choked due to encroachments and drainage diverted into the lake, it has become a cesspool not fit for survival of fishes also. Though, fencing was arranged around the lake, there is no change in the situation.

The main cause of pollution in the lake is the drain water from Jawahar Nagar dumping yard entering into the lake. Due to this there is a threat of epidemic from vector-borne diseases to the residents of nearby colonies - MLR colony, Srinivas Nagar colony, VRR colony, PS Rao Nagar and Journalist colony. Locals have been requesting the officials to block the drain water from entering into the lake at the earliest.

"A survey was done, and a proposal was made for a separate line to stop drain water entering into the lake. The works will be started at the earliest without causing any inconvenience to the nearby colony residents. Beautification works of the lake will also be started," says Rajalingam, Dammaiguda Municipal Commissioner.

"We are facing a lot of problems because of mosquitoes and stench emanating from the lake. Many children in nearby localities around the lake suffered with diseases like dengue and malaria recently. Officials should respond at the earliest and save the lake and people," says Prasad, a resident.
