World is still inspired by Gandhi's teachings
Paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary on Wednesday, former Minister and ex-Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that teachings, thoughts and views of the father of the nation would remain eternal and continue to inspire several generations.
Charminar: Paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary on Wednesday, former Minister and ex-Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that teachings, thoughts and views of the father of the nation would remain eternal and continue to inspire several generations.
During a programme organised at Charminar, as part of the anniversary fete, Shabbir slammed US President Donald Trump for calling Prime Minister Narender Modi as 'Father of India'. He gave an interesting comparison between Mahatma Gandhi and PM Modi and said that the latter had no stature even to be compared with Gandhi.
"Mahatma Gandhi was an institution in himself, while Modi is BJP's poster boy. He is a model, a poser and an actor. Modi even did modelling for Jio, Pay TM and other products. Gandhji led the struggle for independence and brought freedom for the country. But, PM Modi suppressed people's freedom, manipulated elections, openly lied and cheated the entire country with 'Jumlas' like 'Achche Din' and 'Vikas'," he said.
"Mahatma Gandhi was highly qualified and a reputed lawyer, while Modi's academic qualification is still a mystery, although he claims to hold a BA and MA degree. Gandhi used to wear a dhoti, eat ordinary food and believed in simple living. But, Modi wears suits and jackets worth lakh of rupees and even changes them thrice a day on some occasions.
He eats costliest mushrooms. Mahatma Gandhi toured the entire India to meet people, while Modi is a frequent flyer to other nations. He toured almost all countries in world map. But, he never visited any village in the last 6 years," he said.
Shabbir Ali pointed out that Mahatma Gandhi's words still inspire the world. But, PM Modi reads his speeches from a teleprompter and the entire content is written by PR and branding agencies. Gandhi embraced poor Indians without any discrimination. But, Modi hugs only leaders of foreign countries. Have you ever seen Modi hugging any Indian? He even felt hurt when Rahul Gandhi hugged him in Parliament," he said.
The Congress leader said that Mahatma Gandhi believed in truth and non-violence (Satya and Ahimsa) throughout his life. But, Modi's foundation stands on corpses of innocent people of Gujarat in 2002 communal riots. His government gained strength from killing of innocent people in mob-lynching. He played politics over martyrdom of CRPF Jawans in Pulwama and did not even meet their families after winning elections, he said.
Further, he said Mahatma Gandhi had great companions like Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, Moulana Azad, etc., while Modi's companions include Home Minister Amit Shah, who once went to jail on murder charges and Chinmayanand Swamy, who is now in jail on rape charges.
