New Delhi: Officials of the Government of India on Saturday, dismissed reports that Prime Minister Modi would hold talks with US President Donald Trump at Agra on February 24. Government sources stated there would be no official engagements between PM Modi and President Trump at Agra on the US President's two-day visit to India on Monday and Tuesday.
The Agra visit of the US President and Melania Trump being referred to as a 'sunset visit' could include the US President's daughter, Ivanka and son-in-law, Jarred Kushner. It would be an occasion for Donald Trump and his family members to visit the historic Taj Mahal.
President Trump, who arrives on Monday, February 24 will first visit Ahmedabad, where a massive roadshow awaits him en route the 'Namaste Trump' event at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Motera. The largest cricket stadium in the world is likely to be filled with 1,10,000 people. It is uncertain whether President Trump would visit Mahatma Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram.
After visiting Agra in the evening, the US President will head to the national capital. He will begin the second leg of his India visit with a ceremonial visit to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial, Rajghat at 10 am. This will be followed by talks at Hyderabad House with a restricted delegation.
A wide range of issues including regional security, counter-terrorism, the Afghan peace process, energy security and other multilateral subjects are likely to form a part of the discussions. All the issues are aimed at strengthening the global strategic partnership between India and the US, officials said. Following the discussions, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed and a press statement will be released later.
PM Modi will host an official lunch for President Trump, followed by a ceremonial dinner banquet at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan by President Ramnath Kovind in the evening.
