A gang of six men were held after three days, when an engineering student was found dead with cut off hands and legs by the Somangalam police on Thursday. The murder took place after the student was caught informing a gang of history-sheeters about the movement of a rival gang said the police.

Deepak Raj, the victim 22, of Ambedkar Salai, Sriperumbudur, was the son of Baskar, an AIADMK functionary. A missing person's complaint was filed by his parents affirming that their son who had gone to attend a wedding in Porur did not return home. The police found him dead near Erumaiyur, during the search.

Police caught hold of six of a gang of history-sheeters who were last seen talking to the victim, who are the prime suspects in the murder. Deepak was allegedly giving out information to a local gang about the movement of an opposing gang, who was plotting a murder. Soon after the gang found the victim's connection, they decided to kill him said the police sources. The police detained six men after checking the CCTV camera footage.
