Kakinada: Knowledge has no boundaries and knowledge of one engineering branch that could be applied in another branch like the principles of fluid mechanics have been applied to the medicine, said Prof G N Gandhi, president of Indian Geotechnical Society.

He was addressing the three-day national-level ‘Indian Geotechnical Conference’ (IGC-2014) which began on the JNTU-K campus here on Thursday.

Gandhi asked the engineers to take up the projects and maintain quality, safety and integrity. He urged them to be honest and follow ethics in their work. He said IGS has been providing financial support to youngsters who come out with research notion. The motto of IGS is to create Green Society and enhance professional practice.

The Organising Committee of IGC-2014 and Executive Committee of IGS Kakinada Chapter on behalf of Indian Geotechnical Society and Department of Civil Engineering, JNTU, Kakinada is organising the conference.

Chief Guest V B Gadgil appreciated the theme of IGS ‘Inclusive development of India’. He recalled the statement of Dr Kalam, who said India should be a developed country by 2020. He said infrastructure could not be imported but could be produced in local and urban areas for the inclusive development of the country. He pointed out the problems of over population, urbanisation and lack of resources, which were creating a gap for the inclusive development. He asked the technocrats to apply scientific views and engineering methods for sustainable habitat. He said engineers should find solutions to the problems and modernise new techniques and unifications of codes to be done in the field of Geo technology.
