Fishermen in the area had been protesting the construction of a seventh berth at the Kakinada port due to the fear of shunted out from the fish storage area after the berth was completed. The flames were put out by the fire engines of Kakinada Sea Ports Limited along with the fire department.
While Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nimmakayala China Rajappa ordered a probe into the incident, Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Revenue divisional officer B.R. Ambedkar visited the spot.
