Two witness statements recorded in Chittoor Encounter

K.G. Balakrishnan, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman on Monday, directed recording of statements of two people who claimed to be part of a group of woodcutters in the April 7th encounter killing 20 woodcutters in Andhra Pradesh and based on the statements, action will be taken.

Demanding action over the police encounter, the NHRC Panel received three complaints as the NHRC officials issued a suo moto notice to the Andhra Pradesh government on the alleged police action.

The two who appeared before the human rights came to record their statements on their own and were not called, said the NHRC officials. Mr. Balakrishanan said that once the statements are recorded, the decision will be taken to give them security.
