Seshachalam encounter

Hyderabad: The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday directed the Andhra Pradesh police to submit all relevant reports including those of post-mortem in the Seshachalam Hills encounter case. The bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a public interest writ petition filed by Chandra Sekhar of Civil Liberties Committee.

As reported earlier, Mrs Muni Ammal, family member of one of the 20 woodcutters who was gunned down in the alleged encounter in Seshachalam Hills, filed a complaint. The counsel for Muni Ammal informed the bench that six bodies were preserved in Tiruvenveli district hospital in Tamil Nadu. They requested that the post-mortem on the bodies to be done in the presence of senior doctors. The counsel submitted to the bench that steps for withdrawal of a similar petition in the Madras High Court was already initiated.

Recording the statement of the counsel, the bench directed the Andhra Pradesh State government to submit all relevant documents including a copy of the FIR and adjourned the case to Thursday. Yet another encounter was questioned in the High Court. Family members of the victims of the Nalgonda encounter approached the court asking for a CBI enquiry into the recent encounter by the Telangana Police in Nalgonda. They alleged that the boys were killed in cold blood. The case is likely to be listed this week before an appropriate bench.
