A 27-year-old farmer named Diwakar, committed suicide at Tarimela village of Singanamala mandal in Anantapur on Monday. The farmer hanged himself from the protective railing of an overhead water tank and the villagers found his body on Tuesday morning.

The villagers immediately alerted the police who sent the body to the local hospital for post-mortem. The police informed that Diwakar used his lungi to hang himself from the water tank. A case has been registered by Assistant SI Iqbal Basha.

Diwakar took six acres of land on lease where he cultivated cotton and groundnut but incurred a loss of Rs 4 lakh owing to the failure of crops in successive seasons. Unable to handle the pressure from the moneylenders, Diwakar took the extreme step.
