Hyderabad: In order to achieve 100 per cent coverage of the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) scheme (i.e distribution of two LED bulbs to each house), the power utilities in Andhra Pradesh are working out modalities for enhancing the penetration of the scheme to all the districts in the State.

APTRANSCO Chairman and Managing Director K Vijayanand said that there is a requirement of about 20 lakh bulbs in the districts where DELP stage-I (4 districts of Guntur, Anantapur, West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts) is being implemented to reach 100 per cent coverage.

As per the directions of State Energy Secretary Ajay Jain, the discoms in co-ordination with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) are in the process of preparing a detailed report on the additional requirement of the LED bulbs to be submitted to the government.

The official said the stage–II of DELP was launched in Krishna district last month and has been extended to Vizianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, and Chittoor districts. So far about 13 lakh 9W LED bulbs have been distributed, taking the total count of LED bulbs distribution in the entire State to 70 lakh (including 57 lakh distributed in the first phase).

The remaining districts of Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa and East Godavari will be taken up in December, so as to complete the scheme by March 2016. Vijayanand observed that the Union government already recognised the efforts of the State government in achieving goals in energy conservation and extended all help to the State.
