Dharna staged seeking suspension of DSP

Tirupati: The CPM and the AP Rajaka Vrittidarula Sangham (APRVS) jointly organised a dharna before Urban SP office here on Tuesday demanding the suspension of DSP (SC&ST cases) Sukumari for arresting a family on the basis of a false complaint and harassing them, to extract money from the family.

CPM state committee member Kandarapu Murali, who led the protest, addressing the gathering said that the DSP took the family including Sankar his mother Munemma (80) and his nephew Mohan into custody on Monday without any enquiry on a case filed against them under the SC,ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, only to get money from Sankar. He said that DSP Sukumari has not changed her attitude of fleecing people despite many representations from the affected and also tried to send the arrested to remand, forcing them to resort to the dharna.

APRVS district president Eswaraiah and secretary Padmanabham said that it has become a practice to the DSP to foist cases on innocent people on false complaints and harass them seeking money. The leaders demanded the suspension of DSP Sukumari and order for a probe against her.

Meanwhile, police officials including DSPs Narasimha Reddy, Srinivasulu, Narasappa and CI Anju Yadav held several rounds of discussion with CPM and ARPVS leaders before a meeting with Additional SP Trimurthulu.

After knowing about case details from the Additional SP, the SP issued an order for the release of Sankar and his family. He also deputed Tirumala DSP Eswar Reddy as an enquiry officer in the case, relieving Sumathi from the case. As a result, the CPM and APRVS leaders called off dharna. The leaders thanked SP Gopinath for his prompt favourable response in the case.
