Vijayawada: In a bid to curb the irregularities in the implementation of ‘Nityaannadanam’ scheme at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, atop Indrakeeladri, officials have decided to introduce bio-metric attendance system from April 1.Speaking to The Hans India on Monday, Temple Assistant Executive Officer (AEO) and Public Relations Officer S Achyuta Ramaiah said that not less than 5,000 devotees would be provided free meals everyday on the temple premises.

Recently, the temple authorities got to know that shopkeepers and people residing on the hill are relishing the food, which was meant for the devotees visiting the temple from longer distances. Many of the devotees brought this issue to the notice of in-charge Executive Officer Chandrasekhar Azad.
A meeting was conveyed by the temple authorities over the issue. In the meeting, In charge EO directed the officials to introduce bio-metric attendance system for Annadanam from April 1 to enable pilgrims to relish it. Each devotee should keep his thumb impression on the bio-metric system and enter the dining hall premises. Introduction of bio-metric system for Annadanam scheme will also provide the accurate attendance of devotees consumed the meals per day.
Officials are also finding out possibilities of continuing the same menu every day to reduce the number of repeated devotees visiting the dining hall. Plans are afoot by temple authorities to introduce IRIS recognition system on the temple premises shortly for darsanam, said Temple AEO Achyuth Ramaiah.
Meanwhile, the decision to introduce bio-metric system for Annadanam scheme has drawn flaks among the devotees. The temple authorities who are spending the devasthanam amount lavishly for private contracts and other purposes should withdraw the new reforms taken in the implementation of annadanam scheme.
Majority of the poor and financial backward class devotees in and around the temple were consuming the free meals every day. Officials should recheck their decision and continue the scheme without any limitations, said a devotee named Padmavathi, who consumes the free meals every day at the temple.
