Vijayawada: A farmer P Chenna Reddy of Narasimharaopalem of Chatrai mandal in Krishna district was relieved from problems of irregular power supply for providing water to his agricultural field. The farmer installed a solar pumpset obtained under subsidy, through New and Renewable energy Development Corporation of AP Limited (NREDCAP).

Krishna district tops in installing solar pumpsets in the State. More than 800 farmers in upland areas of the district installed solar pumpsets supplied under subsidy and another 500 farmers are ready to install pumpsets. The pumpsets were installed in Vissannapet, Chatrai, Nuzvid and Bapulapadu upland mandals of Krishna district.

The Ministry of Renewable Energy is providing 33 per cent subsidy for five hp motors to a tune of Rs 1,62,000 and the Discoms is providing 56 per cent subsidy, to the tune of Rs 2,12,000. Farmers have to bear Rs 55,000.Majority of the farmers in upland areas of the district are opting for solar pumpsets to save horticulture crops as there was no source of irrigation facility to their agricultural fields.

Speaking to The Hans India NREDCAP district manager Srinivasa Rao said that Krishna district tops in the State in installing solar pumpsets and added that they are ready to install more solar pumpsets though the target was set at 1,200 solar pumpsets.

He said there was good response from farmers and majority of them were coming forward to install the pumpsets.
He also said that if more farmers come forward, it would helpful in reducing the burden on the power department, thereby preventing pollution.

It may be noted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is also keen on developing solar energy in the State and asked the officials to promote usage of solar energy in a big way to reduce burden on the Discoms.
