Vijayawada: Transport commissioner N Balasubramanyam formally inaugurated head office of the Transport Department at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station complex on Thursday. The office was constructed in the third floor of the arrival block.
Speaking on the occasion, the transport commissioner said that the staff would shift to Vijayawada in two phases. “80 employees would come to Vijayawada before June 27 as directed by the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the remaining staff will come by second week of July,” he added.
Balasubramanyam made it clear that the transport officials in the district must start correspondence to the head office in Vijayawada from June 27.
Non-Technical Employees Association president D Mani Kumar also asserted that the staff was ready to shift to Vijayawada. Joint transport commissioner SAV Prasada Rao, in-charge deputy transport commissioner S Venkateswara Rao, motor vehicle inspectors and others attended the event.
It should be noted that the head office is located above the APSRTC administrative office, which is in the second floor. Interestingly, construction works are going on full swing in the fourth floor, as a few government departments are holding talks with the APSRTC over the availability of five lakh square feet on the fourth floor.
