Pithapuram (East Godavari): Senior civil judge Ammanna Raja has termed deploying schoolchildren in hazardous tasks is a crime and exhorted one and all to obliterate the social evil.

He was addressing participants of a legal literacy camp on child labour held on the premises of court here on Sunday.

The managements employing child labour attract heavy fines, he said, adding that the social evil can be rooted out if we remain alert and respond suitably to child labour in vogue all around us.

He said real justice would be done to children when people act with social responsibility in spite of several legislations to curb the menace. Special laws are in force to safeguard children’s’ rights, he added.

Under the Right to Education Act, children of school age should be sent to schools compulsorily, he said. Bar Council president Piratla Krishna Murthy, assistant government pleader Ali, Bar council general secretary Padala Ravi, advocates Badam Eswar and Saka Nageswara Rao took part in the camp.
