Kakinada: Tourism development under Swadesh Darshan is being taken up in a big way in East Godavari. As part of this programme, NTR beachs at Vakalapudi, in the suburbs of the city, will be developed with an outlay of Rs 45 crore.

The development works will betaken under PPP mode. The beach will have entertainment centres, resorts, food courts, fisheries museum, boat ride and other amenities. The officials are laying emphasis on connectivity to the place.

The development of Hope Island and Coringa mangroves (Mada forest) has been entrusted to the Forest Department. A total of Rs 14.42 crore was released to the Tourism Department, of which Rs 7.10 crore was for Hope Island and Rs 7.32 crore for Coringa mangroves.
Environment-friendly cottages are proposed at Hope Island. However, such facility will not be possible at Coringa mangroves due to environment issues.

Speaking to The Hans India Akhanda Godavari project special officer P. Bhima Sankar Rao said that because of environment factors, the development of both Hope Island and Coringa (Mada Forest) were entrusted to Forest Department.
