Cinema theatres suspended noon shows. Preventive arrests were made at Rampachodavaram, Tuni and Rajanagaram. YSRC MLA Vantala Rajeswari of Rampachodavaram, Dadisetty Ramalingewara Rao of Tuni and Rajanagaram YSRC incharge Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi along with their followers were taken in to preventive custody till the evening.

Skeletal services were operated by APSRTC till noon. A nonstop bus service from Kakinada to Rajamahendravaram and a passenger service from Kakinada to Yanam were intercepted by agitators and were sent back to Kakinada depot with passengers.

Auto rikshaws which were not interrupted by the agitators could manage to do brisk business. With Kartika maasam beginning on Wednesday, several passengers who were in a hurry to reach different destinations had to wait till the bus services were restored in the afternoon.

According to bankers, the clearing house transactions to the tune of Rs 6 to 7 crore and the regular banking activities estimated to the tune of over Rs 130 crore said to have been affected throughout the 478-branch network of various banks in both urban and rural areas.

Rajamahendravaram: Bandh call given by the YSR Congress Party in protest against the approach of the BJP at the Centre and the TDP in the State with regard to the Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh was peaceful in East Godavari.

Activists of the YSRCP came onto the roads in the early hours of Tuesday and were successful in stopping the RTC buses from leaving the RTC complex and first services of the RTC were disrupted.

Morning shows in cinema theatres were cancelled. Schools were closed partially and some of the banks were closed in Rajamahendravaram. Shops and business establishments remained closed as the Rajamahendravaram Chamber of Commerce gave support to the bandh call.

Police arrested hundreds of leaders of the YSR Congress, Congress and the left parties on Tuesday to prevent any untoward incidents.

YSR Congress leaders, including former MLA Routhu Suryaprakasa Rao, Rajamahendravaram rural coordinator Akula Veerraju, YSRCP State youth wing president Jakkampudi Raja, municipal corporation floor leader M Sharmila Reddy along with Sri Raj, son of the former Amalapuram MP GV Harsha Kumar were arrested.

YSRCP activists staged rasta rokos at the bus depots of Rajamahendravaram, Amalapuram, Razole, Tuni, Pithapuram and Gokavaram.
