Vijayawada: The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) is planning to set up Central Control Monitoring Room in the city to monitor the functioning of the street lamps in all the municipalities and municipal corporations in the State.

The new Monitoring Room would be constructed in 10,000 square feet area in the city by the end of October, 2016. The officials can supervise the functioning of 5.50 lakh LED bulbs in Andhra Pradesh from the Monitoring Room in the city with the help of geo-tagging.

The State government set October, 2016 as target to install LED bulbs for the street lighting in 110 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). As part of the energy conservation programme, the government decided to install 5.50 lakh LED energy saving bulbs in the State.

Of the total target, 4.40 lakh bulbs were already installed, said K Vijayanand, the Chairman and Managing Director of APGENCO. He told the reporters here on Wednesday that the officials at the Central Controlling Monitoring Room in the city can get information how many bulbs were functioning and how many failed.

The SPDCL was trying to install 5.50 lakh LED bulbs in 13 districts by October, 2016. In the city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation installed 32,000 LED bulbs. Functioning of these bulbs can be verified through the smart phones with the help of app developed by the government.
