​Amaravati/ Ongole: Heavy rain on Monday played havoc in Guntur and Prakasam districts. While an old woman died following wall collapse in Karapaladu village of Pidiguralla mandal, railway track between Gurzala- Macharla Repalle section was washed away in a stretch of half a kilometre and several residential colonies were inundated, and road connectivity to several villages was disrupted in the district. Agriculture fields also came under sheet of water in the Palnadu region.

All trains in the section have been cancelled. All the stream, rivulets, tanks are overflowing in the Palnadu region. Road connectivity to several villages was cut off due to flood waters.

According to civic administration, rainwater entered into several residential colonies in Dachepalli, Gurazala, Rentachintala and Macherla. In Gurazala town, RTC bus stand area near Brahmmanaidu statue was under three feet of water.

Nandana Venkata Rao Colony and Seetharam Talkies area were also inundated. Road connectivity between Gurazala- Karempudi was disrupted due to overflowing of Dandivagu stream. Similarly, several low- lying areas in Macherla town were inundated due to rain.

Road connectivity was disrupted to several villages in Guntur district as rainwater was overflowing on roads. Nagaleru, Dandivagu and Pillutla streams are overflowing. The revenue officials set up a relief camp in the government Boys High School in Macherla and made arrangements for food and safe drinking water. Over 500 people have been shifted to this camp.

Relief camps have also been set up in Gurazala and Pulipadu. The officials shifted 1,200 persons in Gurazala, 600 persons in Pulipadu to the relief camps. The Medical and Health department has also swung into action and has set up medical camps and distributing medicines to those in relief camps.

According to Meteorological office, Durgi mandal received highest rain of 27.3 cm. In Ongole, almost all mandals in the district received consistent rain and the low- lying areas are now immersed in water. The streams and rivulets are over flowing endangering the lives of people in the nearby villages.

In Ongole, slums and low- lying areas like Balaram colony, Moturi Uday colony, Keasava Rajukunta, Gandhi Nagar, Sujatha Nagar, Venkateswara colony are immersed in knee-deep rainwater. The residents spent the night by pumping out water from their homes. Areas like RTC bus stand, Nellore bus stand, Kurnool road, Bapuji market and Old Market road were water logged.

Due to consistent rain in Parchur mandal, water entered into the Trivikrameswara Swami temple in Cherukuru. Knee-level water entered houses in Dandubavi area in Chirala. The untimely heavy rains affected the crops of cotton, chilli and blackgram in some areas of the district. The farmers lost the crop to heavy rains, which might be harvested in a week to two weeks.
