Amaravati: Several noted pundits, astrologers and seers finalised muhurthams differently for most auspicious Telugu festival Ugadi and other 18 important festivals scheduled for the next year.

Panchangam by the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which would be published this month, has Ugadi festival on March 29 but Kanchipeetam and some other pundits differ over the date.

The pundits, who follow Poorva and Drug Ganita, are divided into two groups. Presently, the issue is hot topic among the astrologers and pundits.

One strong group, which follows Drug Ganita, requested the state government to give clarity by appointing a committee or conduct a meeting before printing and releasing the Panchangams which generally come into market six months ahead of Ugadi.

This group of pundits fixed the date for Ugadi as March 28. Kanchipeetam Siddhanthi L Subramanyam, noted astrologer Srinivasa Gargeya, film hero Balakrishna's personal astrologer Karuparthi Nagamalleswara Rao and a few others supported March 28 but Srungeri Peetham, TTD and some others want Ugadi to be celebrated on March 29.

As per the present panchangams, the people of Andhra Pradesh should celebrate 18 festivals on two different days next year. The important festivals like Ugadi, Sri Ramanavami, Krishnashtami, Kaveri Pushkaralu, Karteeka Pournami, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Mahasivaratri, Holi and several auspicious occasions schedule has different dates in different panchangams.

The common public and followers of panchangam are confused over the dates. Several noted astrologers announced Sri Ramanavami date as April 4 (Tuesday), some of them fixed as April 5(Wednesday).

Even the Kanchipeetam and Srungeri Peetam differed on Ugadi. TTD Panchangam, Srisailam Panchangam, Chinajeeyar Matam and several noted astrologers also fixed the muhurthams differently.

In the past, the government's controlled two temple institutions TTD and Srisailam Panchangams announced two schedules for Godavari Pushkaralu as July 7 and July 15 in last year. Even with regard to dates for Krishna Pushkaralu differed.

Kanchipeetam Siddhanthi L Subramanyam said that the Union government's approved panchangam which is called Rashtriya Panchangam also confirmed Ugadi on March 28. He said that the difference of opinions would confuse public and government should give clarity by organising meetings with experts.
