Visakhapatnam: A month after the brutal murder of a divorced woman, her killer was arrested by the MVP Zone police on the outskirts of
the city on Wednesday. He was produced in the court and sent to remand. The police also recovered two knives from him which were
used for the murder. The dead woman’s mother who was also attacked, is still undergoing treatment in King George Hospital.

Giving details of the case to the reporters, ACP (East) Annepu Narasimha Murthy said the complainant Donka Bhogamma and her
daughter Rupa are the natives of Ponduru mandal in Srikakulam district. Rupa was married to her relative but got separated. The accused
L Ramana, an electrician by profession, lived close to their village. He was also separated from his wife.

Bhogamma later shifted to HB Colony in Visakhapatnam and along with her daughter began working as domestic helps in the locality.

Ramana also shifted to HB Colony and proposed marriage with Rupa. However, the proposal was rejected by her mother. After that
Ramana and Rupa eloped to Vijayawada in May this year but immediately she returned home unable to bear Ramana’s torture. Though the
family members of Bhogamma warned Ramana not to disturb them, Ramana repeatedly asked Rupa to come along with him.

On August 13, Ramana came to her house and attacked her with sharp weapons. When she ran out of home, Ramana ran after her with a
sickle and stabbed her to death. He also injured Bhogamma who tried to save Rupa.

The ACP said neighbours were witness to the incident as they saw Ramana chasing the victim with sickle. After the murder, Ramana went
into hiding but caught on Wednesday.
