The latest Inshore Patrol Vessel, IPV of Indian Coast Guard has been named as ‘Rani Gaidinliu’ as a tribute to the noted freedom fighter of Manipur of Zeliangrong community.

Director General Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh, who will be participating in the commissioning, has invited two BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders, Thounaojam Chaoba convener and Adim Pamei vice-president of State BJP to take part in the commissioning function.

The ship will be based at Kishnapatnam port and would significantly contribute to the ICGs surveillance capability and coastal security on the eastern seaboard.

In another event, the water jet fast attack craft INS Tihayu, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited, Kolkata, will be commissioned. The vessel was handed over to the Indian Navy on August 30 this year.

This warship measuring 48 X 7.5 M with a displacement of around 315 tonnes, has an endurance of around 2,000 nautical miles at 12-14 knots speed. She also boasts of modern habitability conditions with accommodation for 29 personnel.

Named after an island in the Andaman, ‘Tihayu’ is fitted with three water jet propulsion systems powered by marine diesel engines generating 2,720 kw of power. It is also fitted with CRN-91 indigenous 30 mm gun to provide artillery fire support during attack missions.
