He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Meeting of Minds – Police and Youth’ organised by the Chittoor Police department as part of the ‘Police commemoration week’, on Tuesday. Nearly 2,000 students from various educational institutions in Chittoor and the surrounding towns and villages took part in the programme and interacted with the police officers.
Chittoor: In order to create awareness among the students and youth about the services of the Police department, a unique strategy has been initiated to bring the police and youth on to a common plat form, said Chittoor District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas. The role of students in the development of the country is crucial and therefore, they need to be enlightened on their rights and responsibilities with respect to protecting the law and order in society, he said.

Addressing the students, the SP said it was really unfortunate that a vast majority of students were falling prey to the negative aspects of western culture and thereby neglecting their basic responsibilities and undermining the law. He informed that the majority of bike accidents involved students, and their carelessness was often leaving their parents heartbroken.
He said that the police also had a major role to play along with society elders and parents in directing the students on to the right path. The SP made a fervent appeal to the students to get their doubts cleared directly by the police officer with respect to their experiences with the department.
Officers present at the event responded to the queries raised by the students on many issues, and especially on allegations of harassment by police officials. Police officers then gave a power point on various criminal aspects relating to Women, Juveniles, accidents and other issues and aspects. ASPs Abhishek Mahanthy ( Administration) , V Rathna ( Operations ), AR ASP Radhakrishna , DSPs Ramkumar ( SB), Kesappa ( Traffic), Ramanaiah ( AR ) , Lakshmi Naidu ( Chittoor town ) and Ramakrishna ( Crime ) along with all Circle Inspectors and Sub Inspectors took part in the event.
