Visakhapatnam: Police were caught unaware when State Secretary of CPI K Ramakrishna, along with party leaders and activists, made a vain bid to take out a rally towards the RK Beach, here on Friday.

When the police personnel were busy with the bandobust duties in and around the CII Partnership Summit venue near the Harbour Park, a large number of CPI activists led by leaders, including State secretary Ramakrishna, State assistant secretary J V V Satyanarayana Murty (Nani) and district secretary A J Stalin, surprised the police by resorting to a sudden procession from the Gandhi statue near the GVMC to the R K Beach Road via old jail road on Friday evening.

Before taking out the protest rally, party State secretary Ramakrishna found fault with the State government for suppressing the peaceful protests planned on the beach road demanding SCS on Thursday using police force.

“Without fulfilling the contents of the Andhra Pradesh State Re-organisation Bill-2014, the Narendra Modi government has been cheating the people of the State without giving special package to the backward areas of Rayalaseema and Uttarandhra, separate railway zone for Vizag and steel plant for Kadapa”, he said.

Pointing out that when Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanded SCS for a period of 15 years while the then BJP National president M Venkaiah Naidu asked for 10 years in Parliament, the CPI leader questioned what happened to their sense on that day in demanding SCS and why they are now backtracking on the issue.

As these two Telugu Naidus have no courage to talk in front of Narendra Modi, they are misleading the public and youth stating that there is no benefit with the SCS.

Taking on to Union Minister Sujana Chowdary for his derogative remarks against the SCS protesters, Ramakrishna asked him to question their TDP leader J C Prabhakar Reddy who was instrumental in organising pigs competition.

“When opposition parties, youth and intellectuals came voluntarily demanding SCS peacefully, how dare you are to arrest the participants’ en-masse using forces.

I challenge you to arrest me and my cadres now as we are going to the same venue today”, he said.

By the time the police came to know about the CPI rally, it reached the old jail road where it was forcibly stopped paralysing the vehicular traffic.

Additional forces with vehicles were summoned and the police had a tough time for 30 minutes in shifting the agitating leaders and women after making preventive arrests.

The leaders squatted on the main road raising slogans against TDP, BJP and the two Naidus.
