Amaravati: Stung by a wave of protests from within his party over the Cabinet expansion for allegedly displaying a ‘special love’ for defectors at the expense of old horses, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appeared to have treaded with caution in allotment of portfolios. He let the vocal and senior ministers such as Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, KE Krishnamurthy, Ganta Srinivasa Rao and P Narayana remain untouched by retaining their existing portfolios.
Naidu was understood to have let a great deal of exercise gone into the allocation of the portfolio with the triple assignments of Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and IT for his son Nara Lokesh. The move is expected to help Lokesh expose himself to the rural folks on the one side and the upwardly moving middle class and urban sections. Thereby, he intended to be groomed as a down-to-earth leader by understanding the nitty-gritty of issues at the ground level. In a way, the young leader may do a KTR in Telangana by handling IT.
Prattipati Pulla Rao, Paritala Suneetha and Siddha Raghava Rao have their wings clipped with their plum posts stripped for either allegedly tainted in corruption or mired in group rivalries within the party, causing much embarrassment to the government. Pulla Rao, who faced allegations related to a scam in the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI)’s cotton procurements and in purchase of Agrigold properties which rocked the Assembly during the current session, was shifted to Civil Supplies.

But his Agriculture portfolio with the combination of horticulture, sericulture and agri-processing were bundled into two segments and distributed to Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy of Nellore and C Adinarayana Reddy in Kadapa district.
Paritala Suneetha, who miserably failed to take on board different intra-party groups in her native Anantapur district, is deprived of cozy Civil Supplies portfolio and received Women and Child Welfare. Similarly, Housing, which was with Kimidi Mrunalini was also split into Urban and Rural Housing and allotted to Municipal Administration minister Narayana and Kalva Srinivasulu.
The CM also left the portfolios held by the two BJP ministers—Pidikondala Manikyala Rao and Kamineni Srinivas—untouched.
The four defected MLAs—Akhila Priya, C Adinarayana Reddy, Ravu Sujay krishna Venkata Ranga Rao and N Amarnatha Reddy—received plum posts. Tourism and Industry, which are at the top of the government agenda went to Akhila Priya and Amarnath Reddy, respectively, while Sujayakrishna Venkataranga Rao received Mines and Adinarayana Reddy Marketing and Warehousing.
