The Eastern Naval Command Cross Country Championship 2017-18 was held at INS Dega on Saturday. All ships and establishments of Eastern Naval Command, including outstations units from Tamil Nadu area, took part in the event. The aim is of the event is to popularise the sports of cross-country amongst service personnel and select ENC Cross-Country team.

Visakhapatnam: The Eastern Naval Command Cross Country Championship 2017-18 was held at INS Dega on Saturday. All ships and establishments of Eastern Naval Command, including outstations units from Tamil Nadu area, took part in the event. The aim is of the event is to popularise the sports of cross-country amongst service personnel and select ENC Cross-Country team.

The cross-country was conducted over a distance of 12 km on the premises of the Naval Air Station, INS Dega and the participants were grouped into seven teams of 12 runners each. The championship was governed by the rules of International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Anuj Kumar won the the keenly contested race and Pramod Dhakad was the runners-up, both are Hull Apprentices from Local Ashore 'A' team. The Cross-Country Team Championship for 2017-18 was bagged by the Fleet 'A' Team and Local Ashore 'A' Team was runners up.

Rear Adm Deepak Kapoor, Chief Staff Officer (Personal and Administration), Eastern Naval Command, was the chief guest for the event and gave away prizes to individual winners and trophies to the winning teams.
