Finally, Vijayawada unit of Disaster Response and Fire services Department will get Bronto skylift to combat fire accidents in the high-rise buildings in and around the city.
Vijayawada: Finally, Vijayawada unit of Disaster Response and Fire services Department will get Bronto skylift to combat fire accidents in the high-rise buildings in and around the city. After many years of requests made by the district officials, the state government had finally sanctioned Rs 10 crore for Bronto skylift for Vijayawada city. So far, only Vizag city in the state has the skylift.
Now, Vijayawada is the second city to get the skylift to combat the fire accidents and disasters in the high-rise buildings. Rescue operation teams can reach up to 75 metres height with the help of skylift which is very easy to operate. The government will call for tenders soon in this regard.
Construction activity gained momentum in the city after bifurcation of the state and many high- rise buildings, including G +10 floors, are also being constructed in many parts of the city.
A star hotel with G+10 floors is under construction near Bank Colony on Chennai-Kolkata national highway. Besides, huge multi storeyed building is under construction on Pinnamaneni polyclinic road. Another mega structure with 14 floors has already constructed at Urmila Nagar. Similarly, many high-rise buildings are coming up in the city during the last three years.
Keeping in view of the safety of occupants and need to protect the lives and property, the fire services department has sanctioned the skylift to Vijayawada city, said D Niranjan Reddy, district fire officer. He said the multi-purpose skylift will be very useful to combat fire accidents and save the lives of the people trapped in the high-rise buildings.
He said fire accidents are unpredictable and the department must gear up to face any challenge. He said Fire Task Force teams already trained and equipped to meet the challenges and take up rescue operations in events like natural calamities, road accidents, building collapses or other disasters in the city.
He further said training is imparted to private security guards also in the city to check disasters and reduce the loss of property and lives during the disasters.
