Visakhapatnam: In a bid to beef up the monitoring mechanism, Pollution Control Board has taken a decision to set up three Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations.

These new stations will be installed in next three months at Gajuwaka, Madhurawada and MVP Colony in the city, according to PCB environmental engineer R Lakshmi Narayana.

So far, the PCB unit in the city has been maintaining two stations. While one is located at Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and another unit, which was under repair, has been situated at Gnanapuram.

Both these Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations give real-time data. There are also other Air Quality Monitoring Stations set up by the industries in Vizag based on the recommendations of APPCB. Of these stations maintained by the industry units, a few work on real-time and other on manual readings.

All the reading recorded at these stations will be uploaded on Pollution Control Board portal. Besides, there is an app Paryavaran which could be used to get the air quality data of the recordings.
