BC Students Association national president Marukurthi Durga Vara Prasad started his two-day hunger strike

Rajamahendravaram: BC Students Association national president Marukurthi Durga Vara Prasad started his two-day hunger strike at quarry centre here on Friday, with a demand to cancel 38 illicit liquor shops located in 45th to 50th divisions in the city immediately.

Speaking to reporters, he said that he would continue his protest until the officials of Prohibition and Excise department assure for removal of the shops from the six divisions immediately as many persons including youth of SC/ST, BC and Minorities are becoming victims of liquor and the liquor became a health hazard to them. Due to lack of literacy they were accustomed to consume liquor.

The two-day hunger strike will be converted into indefinite hunger strike, if the officials failed to give assurance in this regard.

Instead of repeated reminders, officials of Prohibition and Excise department were not responding in this regard.

The 38 liquor shops selling as many as 15,000 litres per day and many were becoming victims. The officials of Prohibition and Excise department were mum in this regard.

He appealed to all parties, non-governmental organizations and others to extend their support to his protest programme, which was started for the welfare of the people.
