Vizianagaram: A forest guard was injured while trying to drive away the herd of elephants into forest in Komarada mandal in the district on Monday. The forest guard S Apparao while driving away the wild elephants into forests, tried to ignite the explosive materials to threaten the animals. However, the forest guard was injured seriously as the explosive material exploded in his hands.

He was rushed to the hospital at Parvathipuram. Divisional forest officer P Lakshman informed that they would take steps to drive the animals into forest. Recently an elephant calf was electrocuted in Artham village of Komarada mandal. Out of eight elephants, one calf was killed and another seven, including its mother became wild and destroying the banana and other horticultural crops in the mandal.
