Tirupati: To make Sanskrit language more popular, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) has been organising free Sanskrit speaking course. The classes for ‘speak Sanskrit in 10 days’ would be held for two hours daily in the evening time to facilitate people from all walks of life attend the classes and learn to speak the language.

The entire course was designed to be more student centric with their active involvement being the key factor. They need to speak for more time than the instructors. The course contains story-telling, song, sloka, game etc., everyday which are related to the subject. The participants can speak Sanskrit fluently without any difficulty with the help of interactive sessions once the course is completed.

“However, only speaking techniques would be taught in the first level and in the next level, training would be imparted in writing and reading skills for free,” said the coordinator of the programme Kiran Bhat. But, all the participants from level one may not participate in the level two for which the classes would be held only twice in a week.

Participants would be given books and material during level two, which would be held for two years, and they can write exams also to be held by ‘Samskrita Bharati’ and get a certificate. “It would be easy for them to learn writing and reading the language once they are familiar with speaking the language just like we speak our mother tongue,” Kiran Bhat said.

So far, 23 batches were completed for speaking Sanskrit course at RSVP while another 100 batches were held outside RSVP. They would send the instructors to teach at any institution or organisation if there are 10-15 participants. The brain child of RSVP Vice-Chancellor Prof V Muralidhara Sharma, the programme was one of the several initiatives of the Institute to popularise the language among the public.

They have been organising a programme of ‘Let’s learn Sanskrit’ along with TTD which was being telecasted in SVBC for the last 10 months. It would have English sub titles also. Also, they were going to various schools in Tirupati weekly once to teach them about language and moral values. The speaking Sanskrit course for the new batch begins on Thursday which would be continued till September 30.

There is no age limit for participants. Seventh class studying students to senior citizens have participated in various batches till now. Each batch would be normally confined to 30-35 participants to give more attention on them.
