Kurnool: Six persons were killed on the spot when they were ran over by an unidentified vehicle near Pedda Hothur village in Alur mandal in the early hours on Wednesday. Fifteen others sustained injuries in the mishap.

The deceased and injured were natives of Kurnool town and also belonged to the same family. The deceased were identified as Shaik Khaza (24), Shaik Fathima (26), Haseena (23), Haneef (17), Aasra (9) and Shaik Mehak (7).

According to available information, a group of 21 persons from the same family went on a pilgrimage to Yellarathy Darga at Alur after boarding a tempo trolley on Tuesday night.

Unfortunately the auto in which they were travelling went out of order near Pedda Hothur in Alur mandal in the early hours of Wednesday. As it was just past midnight, the auto-driver could not get anybody to repair the tempo trolley and parked the vehicle on the road side.

Subsequently, the women and children who were travelling in the tempo trolley, slept in the vehicle and others ton the ground just adjacent to the vehicle. As they went into sleep, an unknown vehicle rammed their vehicle at a high speed from the rear end.

Six people sleeping in the vehicle died on the spot while 15 others sustained injuries. The bodies were seen scattered on the road. The mishap occurred even while the indicator lights of the trolley kept blinking as they were switched on for identifying the vehicle.

Alur police rushed to the spot on receiving information. Inspector D Dastagiri Babu shifted the injured to Adoni area hospital for treatment. After
extending treatment, the injured were later admitted to Kurnool general hospital for better treatment.

The dead bodies were shifted to Adoni hospital for autopsy. On learning about the ghastly road accident, TDP Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh, District Collector S Sathyanarayana and the Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetti visited Kurnool general hospital and consoled the family members of the deceased.

TG Venkatesh immediately announced an assistance of Rs 20,000 to those who suffered injuries. He said an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each will be paid to the kin of the deceased under Chandranna Bima scheme.
