Kurnool: Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh said that he will strive to transform Kurnool into sports city. He along with District Collector S Satyanarayana launched an All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Indoor Stadium here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, TG Venkatesh said the shuttlers, who won medals at international tourneys, are taking part in the badminton tournament.

Around 500 shuttlers from various parts of India are participating in the event. The Collector said the State government is giving top priority for sports. “We are very fortunate that we are organising an all-India tournament in Kurnool,” he stated. TG Bharat, President of the Kurnool District Badminton Association, said that the tournament will be held for five days.

Later, Venkatesh, Satyanarayana, Bharat and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr CB Harinath have played badminton and encouraged the participants. Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association Secretary Ch Raghu Kiran, tournament organising secretary Srinivas Bhat and others present.
