Story on Self Help Group women from Kadapa

Despite comparatively other districts literacy rate is low in the women in Kadapa district, but their role in performing state and central governments sponsored schemes is more crucial and unique.

Kadapa S H G women stood as a role model in performing government schemes like Podupu Lakshmi movement, Social Auditing related to NREGS, Paddy procurement, Generic Medical stores, Dairy forms, running Fare Price Shops, Cottage industries etc their participation is larger.

In the current year following the directions of state government the district administration as handed over the responsibility of performing social auditing, related to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and Paddy procurement during in Rabi and Kharif seasons. SHG women successfully conducted these schemes as they receive appreciation from the Chief Minister of their good performance.

Interestingly the role of women in conducting Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) which is state government's prestigious concept Kadapa women have secured several state-level awards from the government by participating in the debates. "It is a welcome decision taken by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in involving us in prestigious NREGS. Such assignment is providing much boost for uplifting our living standards and social empowerment of women community. I never expected that SHG women one day get into the government schemes as partners. It will be an honour to the womenfolk. Thanks to the Chief Minister of his initiation in strengthening the economic, social empowerment of women in the district". Said Talluri Ramanamma leader of Vijayalakshmi Group Duvvuru Mandal told to Hans News Service.

Meanwhile, the government has proposed SHG women to perform Generic Medical Stores in all Mandals in the district. The district administration has already conducted training in that aspect. It is proposed to conduct interviews for allocating GMS to SHGs very soon.

"The role of SHG women in conducting government welfare schemes are excellent. They are more enthusiastic in performing government schemes and developmental activities. I am sure that the wood go-ahead with the same spirit". Said collector Ch Harikiran.
