The SUV is currently available only in diesel avatar but a petrol version is in the making.Rushlane has learnt from its dealer sources that the Maruti Vitara Brezza waiting period extends up to 6 months depending on the variant and location. The sub-4 compact crossover got off to a great start and since its launch in early March, it has surpassed 40,000 bookings.
The company dispatched around 5,500 units last month and is expected to step up the production rate in the coming months. The Vitara Brezza is set to enter the top 10 best selling cars list by May. The strong sales performance of the latest Maruti would have adverse effects on its rivals, the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. It’s to be noted that the EcoSport got cheaper by more than INR 1 lakh post the Brezza’s launch.
The Vitara Brezza is based on the shortened version of the global C-Platform which also underpins the Europe-spec Vitara. The features a rather conservative design. It scores high on space and equipment.
The mini SUV is powered by the time-tested 1.3-litre DDiS (Fiat-sourced MultiJet) diesel engine which is tuned to deliver 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which drives the front wheels. Maruti is currently working on a petrol variant which is most likely to employ the new 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol engine.
