Mahindra eyes big sales with small KUV100
Utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra is targeting bigger sales volume with its small sports utility vehicle (SUV), the KUV100, which, the automaker hopes, will increase its market share in utility vehicle space. It has rolled out the compact SUV into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets on Monday.

The KUV100, which is set to compete against popular compact hatchbacks such as Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10, is the first model from Mahindra to land in the sub-Rs 7 lakh segment in the country’s passenger vehicle space. “Compact car segment accounts for over 1 lakh units a month. We will be happy if we get eight to 10 per cent of that segment as KUV100 being an SUV is a better alternative to compact hatchbacks,” Ashish Malik, Vice President (Marketing), Automotive Division, M&M, told media after unveiling the new model here.
According to him, the compact SUV would also help Mahindra to increase its market share in utility vehicle segment. “Mahindra enjoys 40 per cent market share in the segment in the current financial year till December. The market share will definitely go up as the compact SUV will generate large volumes for us,” Malik said, without revealing expected jump in the market share.
In addition to focusing on domestic market, Mahindra is also planning to export KUV100 to neighbouring countries where the right-hand-drive is the norm, like India. “We will soon start exporting the model to countries such as Sri Lanka and others located closer to India,” he said.
Ninth new model to be launched by Mahindra this fiscal, KUV100 is the first offering from automaker’s stable to sport a petrol engine, mFalcon G80. It also comes with diesel engine, mFalcon D75. Available in seven variants each in petrol and diesel, the compact SUV is priced from Rs 4.53 lakh (ex showroom, Hyderabad).
