Hyderabad: Industries Minister K T Rama Rao on Friday announced that the Telangana government would soon unveil its new textile and handloom policies which would be the best in the country.
The Industries Minister held a review meeting on the upcoming policies at Dr Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute here. Representatives of textile industry, leaders from handloom associations and senior officials took park in the meeting which deliberated on the details that were required to be incorporated in the new policies.
“The main objective of the government in bringing out the policies is to benefit all stakeholders in both the sectors. To achieve this, we will take inputs from everyone connected to this industry and formulate the best policies in the country,” the Minister said.
Pointing out that the meeting was organised to develop development-oriented policy, he said the government would consult all the stakeholders before finalising the policies as it had done in the case of information technology and industrial policies.
According to him, handlooms and textile sectors generate second highest number of employment opportunities in Telangana after agriculture. “That’s why these two sectors are very important for the government and we will take up all requisite initiatives to develop them,” he said.
The Minister pointed out that though 60 lakh bales of cotton were being produced in Telangana, only 10 lakh bales were being utilised in the State. “We will initiate measures for establishment of cotton-based industrial units in Telangana,” he stated.
Maintaining that the government was keen on protecting the handlooms sector, he said the exclusive policy for handlooms would be aimed at developing the sector across the State.
“We will celebrate Handlooms Day on August 7. The Chief Minister has invited the Prime Minister to lay foundation stone for textile park in Warangal,” the Minister said.
