It’s not often one gets to see writers Paruchuri Gopalakrishna and K Vijayendra Prasad extend their support to a film but on Monday it was different as the celebrated faces got together to promote Los Angeles-based Telugu filmmaker Aparna Malladi’s ‘The Anushree Experiments’.

The film tells the sequences of events of a young woman (played by Ulrika Krishnamurti) who comes up with creative schemes to dodge her marriage. Paruchuri, going by the trailer, said the film narrates the tale of most girls these days. “The very idea of a girl coming up with tricks to evade her marriage is commendable.

A film’s extensive run at the cinemas these days hinge on entertainment levels in it and I can make out from the trailer that Aparna has made a hilarious affair,” he said. He chipped in as an after-thought, “A comedy film may run for four weeks but a comedy sprinkled with emotions will always run for 100 days.”

Vijayendra Prasad said the film blew him away. “I wasn’t aware of Aparna’s credentials to begin with but after watching the film I found that she is a talented screenplay writer who is aware of the pulse of her story. Tears rolled down my eyes while watching the film. It’s a wholesome family entertainer,” said the ‘Baahubali’ writer.

Aparna said the film, made on budget of Rs 50 lakh, is a coming-of-age drama of a spirited young woman and how the transition affects her relationship with family, friends and her world at large. “It is inspired from my own life but I took cinematic liberties at places,” she chuckled and added that she found it difficult to get a Telugu-speaking girl on board to play the titular role.

“It was my producer Nancy Nisa who helped me to find Ulrika, who is the niece of singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. I met her at Paddington station, London and I was happy to have discovered that she was from Somajiguda part of Hyderabad. She is a trained actor.”

Shot in 17 days flat, the film will be opening in limited screens across Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada this Friday. It also stars Meka Ramakrishna (Baahubali fame), Hemanth Yerra and Aparna (the director) in supporting roles.
