The makers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited movie Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Sing have decided to delay the film’s release.
The controversy surrounding Padmavati's release took an ugly turn when Karni Sena group threatened to chop off actress Deepika Padukone's nose. Chatriya Samaj, a group from Uttar Pradesh also announced a reward of Rs. 5 crore to any one who beheads Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika.
The film embroiled in a major controversy after rumours of a love scenes between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati in the film spread.
Padmavati is slated to release on December 1. But, in a statement released by the distributing partners of the film, Viacom 18, said that the makers of Padmavati will adhere to the law and the Central Board of Film Certification and has faith that the film will receive the prerequisite clearance for its release.
The #Padmavati controversy is not only unfortunate but also a calculated plan of a political party to destroy the freedom to express ourselves. We condemn this super emergency. All in the film industry must come together and protest in one voice: WB CM Mamata Banerjee pic.twitter.com/I985rR8YFo

With friends such as these, Hinduism or India do not need enemies. This Talibanisation of Hindu culture is despicable. Silence of govts - states & Union - is unacceptable. https://t.co/St3PWUyfkl

It saddens me to see #PadmavatiFight. Fringe wins against freedom of speech for our Indian Cinema. I support #SanjayLeelaBhansali and entire team. It's disappointing to see groups with vested interest bullying us and hinder our way to revive our history! @FilmPadmavati

All those expecting @VasundharaBJP to act against #PadmavatiFight loonies forget that her mother Late Vijaya Raje Scindhia led the pro-Sati brigade in 80s before the courts made glorification of #Sati a crime. @AzmiShabana

Instead of #PadmavatiFight we should trend #IStandWithPadmavati because art shouldn't be destroyed in the name of politics & we should rise up against bullies.#Padmavati #ShahidKapoor #DeepikaPadukone #RanveerSingh
