Rajendranagar (Ranga Reddy): Mailardevpally police arrested a gang of five members on the charges of creating forged plot documents of Shastri Puram venture under the Rajendranagar circle limits and trying to sell for others.

Speaking at a press meet organised at the Mylardevpalli police station here on Thursday, DCP AR Srinivas said that gang leader Syed Shakir Khan is the resident of Jahanuma Lancer in Old City. Srinivas said that Shakir Khan’s main profession is land grabbing but used to pose as a businessman in the public.

About 35 years ago, layout was laid at the Shastri Puram near Jahanuma with the approval of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority. Several higher government officials and businessmen have purchased plots in Shastri Puram as the venture was near to Falaknuma palace.

Especially, higher officials of coastal and Rayalaseema regions have purchased plots at Shastri Puram. But, basic amenities were not provided at Shastri Puram venture due to frequent incidents of communal violence in the Old City.

Taking advantage of the plot owners not visiting Shastri Puram, the DCP said that the key accused Shakir Khan with the support of four others has created forged documents by obtaining certified copies of original plot documents from sub-registrar’s office. In order to make prospective buyers believe that the land documents are original they used to dip documents in decoction and dry it so that documents in white colour would look like old documents. Srinivas said that the accused even forged signatures and created fake sub-registrar stamps. The police official said that the gang members used to threaten original land owners by saying that documents that they are in possession are original documents if they approached to take possession of their land.

A retired engineer of the Irrigation Department, K Sriram Reddy, filed a complaint with police that his plot was encroached. About 10 years ago, Sriram Reddy filed a petition in a court requesting to free his plot from land grabbers. Recently, the court gave judgment in favour of Sriram Reddy.

Based on the complaint, the DCP said that police registered three cases against the accused. He warned that severe action would be taken against those who indulge in land grabbing. Rajendranagar ACP K Ganga Reddy displayed forged plot documents to the media. Mailardevpally Circle Inspector Javed and other police officials were present.
