Hyderabad: As many as 35 rioters were arrested by the Detective Department (DD) of the Central Crime Station (CCS) on Sunday for ransacking the Marredpally police station. Efforts were afoot to nab the others who were absconding.The CCS police registered a case under Sections 143, 147, 148, 152, 307, 332, 395, 427, 435, 452 of the IPC and Section 3 and 4 of the PDPP Act 1984 and took up investigation.

During the investigation, they rounded up at least 35 persons, who have been identified as Ganta Raju, Tokapuram Naveen alias Timmu, Ganta Sairam, Md Moulana alias Moula, Sunnapu Hanmanthu, K Yadaiah, Bidlani Viswender, Koota Ramu, Syed Raffeq, Ambala Kiran and 25 others.

“Most of the accused belong to Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in East Marredpally area. Ganta Raju, Ganta Sairam, Sunnapu Hanmanthu and K Yadaiah played an important key role in the attack by provoking the others,” Joint CP (DD) T Prabhakar Rao said adding that out of 101 offenders identified so far, 35 were arrested and being produced before the court on Monday.

Alleging that G Banappa, 33, died due to brutal custodial torture by the police, his relatives and locals attacked the police station on August 3, ransacked furniture and set afire several files and some computers. They also damaged an Innova car of the Karkhana police station and two RTC buses of Kushaiguda depot.

According to the police, a cash amount of Rs 39, 000 kept inside the police station was looted. Two dragon lights, manpack wireless and chargers, 18 mobile phones and a laptop also were stolen.The police recovered 10 mobile phones, eight motorcycles, an auto-rickshaw and five iron rods from their possession.
