Anantapur: The district police on Wednesday caught red-handed two persons here while they were in possession of a US-made 9 mm pistol and later seized a .32 revolver made in England illegally hidden in Peddamushtur village along with en empty magazine. The weapon in possession of the arrested was being taken to Bellary. The police also arrested two more persons.

Bellary MP Sriramulu is suspected to be involved in the case, Superintendent of Police Rajasekhar Babu told the media. He said the arrested persons were Dosti Pulla Reddy (35) of Kottala Goods Shed in Dharmavaram, Kamsali Bhaskarachary (45) of Picchireddy Kottala, Chalichimala Suryanarayana (56) of Kothagyadikunta, both in Ramagiri mandal, and Kandyala Kumar (28) of Peddamushtur village, Uravakonda mandal.

The SP disclosed that the police were on the lookout for another accused Vadde Sunkanna of Anantapur town. The pistol, he said, was purchased in Bellary. The Anantapur Three Town police, with information provided by the intelligence department, confiscated the other weapon from Peddamushtur.

Investigation by the police revealed that the two weapons were said to be in possession of a former pseudo Naxalite the late Kamma Gopal alias Ranga Reddy. Kandyala Kumar is Gopal’s nephew. Suryanarayana is a key follower of Gopal, who, according to police, was involved in various offences. The SP complimented the police for seizing the weapons.
